UNDERWAY

Compares every way to get to a UK airport terminal — train, coach, taxi, drop-off, driving and parking — ranked on cost, journey time and hassle.

In development Working software, live routing data. Launching once parking inventory is integrated.

One question, answered end to end

Every comparison site answers part of the journey. Parking sites price car parks. Rail sites price trains. Nobody prices the whole thing — including how you reach the station, and how you get home at midnight.

Screenshot below is the running app on live Google routing data, not a mockup. Prices marked EST are our own calculations; parking inventory is not yet connected.

What falls out of comparing the whole journey

A week at Woking station costs £98.34. Driving to Heathrow and parking there costs £64.72.

Nobody tells you that, because parking sites and rail sites are on opposite sides of the question.

Both figures from the same live query — Woking to Heathrow, seven days, two travelling. Station parking appears as an option on the rail journey; airport parking as an option on the driving one. Comparing them requires modelling both journeys door to door, which is the thing this does.

The leg nobody models

Journey planners assume you walk to the station. At 04:00 with two suitcases you do not. Underway prices that leg explicitly — walk, taxi, lift, or drive and park — in both directions, because the realistic answer at 04:00 is not the realistic answer at 22:30.

Changing it re-prices the whole option. That is where the station parking figure above comes from.

An expanded journey breakdown for the coach option: a lift to Woking Rail Station, the RailAir coach to Heathrow Terminal 3, the return coach, and a taxi home from the station. The access leg offers walk, taxi, lift and drive and park at £98.34 as selectable alternatives.

What is built

  • Google routing and transit integrated

Live driving and public transport routing, including real services, operators and interchanges. Journeys are planned, not modelled.

  • Six transport modes

Train, coach, taxi, lift and drop-off, off-site parking and meet & greet — compared against each other on one screen.

  • The full journey, both directions

Including the leg to the station, the way home at whatever hour you land, and charges operators do not advertise up front.

Not yet launched. Parking and meet & greet prices are currently our own per-day estimates against live distances — no operator inventory is connected, and no operator shown in the app is a partner. Integrating that inventory is what this enquiry is about.
